Introduction
For many people, the Kecksburg UFO incident is no longer visualised through eyewitness descriptions, newspaper reports, or competing explanations. It is visualised through a large metallic “space acorn” sitting in Kecksburg, Pennsylvania. That image exists largely because of a television reconstruction. When Unsolved Mysteries investigated the case in 1990, the programme created a life-size model of the object witnesses claimed had been recovered from the woods in December 1965. The replica helped transform a disputed description into a concrete, memorable image. At the same time, it created a lasting challenge for historians and investigators: later generations often encountered the replica before encountering the original evidence, making it harder to distinguish between what witnesses said and what television audiences saw.
