One of the most important facts about meteorite falls is also one of the least intuitive: the glowing fireball usually ends before any surviving fragments reach the ground. After the visible phase stops, any remaining pieces enter what meteor researchers call dark flight—a period of non-luminous descent through the lower atmosphere. Why the Last Visible Point Misleads Witnesses
